Today Britain and America are moving towards a style of warfare that sees fighters, tanks and ships not as individual weapons but as components in a vast network able to share information and pass targets from one to the other. In this “network-centric�way of fighting, software and data- handling move to the fore while steel armour and heavy engineering take a back seat Britain wants access to the software and systems used on the JSF so that it can add weapons and upgrade the fighter independently over the next 30 years.
